ECOVAST's 2-day event took place on the Isle of Wight; primarily rural in character, with picturesque villages, many miles of coastline and varied landscapes. The event activities included an excursion day on the 15th October to showcase themes such as rural heritage tourism, landscape protection, the Leader approach and community empowerment. The international conference itself took place on the 16th October and focused on the "Challenges of Effective Rural Development and Heritage". The day consisted of presentations, case studies, discussion sessions and workshops, including one by the RDPE Network on "Delivering Integration in Rural Development Programmes".
