Maximising Rural Regeneration through RDPE: Business Support

  • Location: Lincoln
  • Date: Thursday 28, October 2010 to Thursday 28, October 2010

In response to requests from local authorities, the RDPE Network and Rural Services Network are working together to deliver a series of four workshops focusing on ‘Maximising Rural Regeneration through RDPE’.  These workshops aim to provide an opportunity for local authorities to share and exchange ideas, practice and experience on how RDPE can be utilised within their territories to sustain their economic and environmental agendas. Workshops so far have focused on 'local action' and ‘environmental support’, whilst the remaining workshops will concentrate on the ‘business support’ and ‘integrated rural development’ elements of RDPE delivery.

This third workshop focused on "business support" and aimed to:

  • Explore the range of business support facilities available via the RDPE;
  • Discuss and communicate different approaches in the development of RDPE business support activities;
  • Consider the practical challenges and solutions to accessing RDPE funding to support businesses; and
  • Identify the potential roles and opportunities for local authorities to support the development of businesses in their communities through RDPE.

The focus of the day was on discussion. A brief overview / case study was provided by an organisation with direct experience of the session topic. This then stimulated further dialogue around the key issues facing local authorities.
